Meet The Horses

Our horses are essential to our daily operations. We use them to gather cattle, check the fences and waters, and more. When you come to Painted Mesa, you will be paired with one of these amazing animals and they will help be your tour guide on the trails.

Sam

Don't let Sam’s size fool you, he has a lot of personality stuffed into a small package. He may be small but that doesn't stop him from being one of our toughest, most reliable ranch horses.

Slim

Slim has a special place in our hearts because he was a rescue. He loves to be petted, brushed, and given treats. He has such a sweet personality & loves people.

Scooter

Scooter loves any and all attention from people. His favorite thing is to be brushed and fed grain. In his younger years he was used for reining, roping, and barrel racing. Now that he is retired from the rodeo life he happily packs around little kids.

Sasco

Sasco hasn't been with us for very long but she stands out due to her bay roan coloring. She is super calm and sweet.

Fritzy

Fritzy is one of a kind due to his “blue” coloring. He loves to get treats (especially grain).

Fancy

Fancy is one of our original horses. She has seen most of the western US with us, from Texas to Kansas to Arizona. In her younger years she was our top ranch horse. She taught our kids how to ride and is the sweetest little mare sure to get along with anyone.

Judy

Judy is super sweet and gentle. She has one goofy quirk where she sticks her tongue out while you're riding her. She has been a ranch horse and a broodmare. Her foal has just as much personality as she does.
